Network diagrams or bar charts haven't got any graphical connections to the project . TILOS has got one further dimension, the distance axis and shows all activities linked to their geographical position.

 | Shows a direct connection to the layout of the site, pointing out what is build at which place. Overleaping activities (clashes) are easy detected.
| | Shows a clear understanding of the effect of the rate of production (by the slope of the line).
| | Shows the effect of contract and other constraints in both time and location.
| | Show the philosophy of the project to management and the client in a clear and immediate fashion. |
Activities in LSM are handled like in traditional project management systems. They describe work packages, that are created by breaking down the complex project into small parts. They are represented in different ways, related to their effect on the project schedule.

The line is the most often used display type for activities and represents a continuous activity in a project, with a defined start and end, both in time and location data. The “line” is a plot of the movement of the crew performing the activity throughout the project with respect to time.
Different work or production rates, caused by changed resource setups or changed ground data are shown by different slopes along the location.

The parallelogram has the attributes of a line activity, but adds an additional time buffer in time or location to the activity. This blocks other works to happen at this time in same area (e.g. concrete curing).
Location offset is used, to block a location space for other works (e.g. a track renewal train can be up to hundreds of m long and blocks the track for other works).

This is like a linear activity, but the work is executed in steps or sections, like building tunnel or bridge or wall segments, one after another.

A block represents an activity that takes place at a given space and for a period of time and does not allow other work to take place. This can be used for monitoring work like grading of a profile for a highway project or to block the area based on other reasons like (Environmental or whether reasons).
TILOS detects, if other activities overlay with this and generates messages.
